Leora workplace culture earns AFR recognition for fifth year
Published Summary

It’s a five-peat for Leora! We’ve been recognised as one of the AFR BOSS Best Places to Work for the fifth consecutive year. If you’re wondering what it takes to build a workplace where care goes both ways, read on.

Leora Healthcare was once again recognised as one of the AFR BOSS Best Places to Work, marking our fifth consecutive appearance on the prestigious list.

For the first time, the Australian Financial Review introduced a combined category covering the government, education, not-for-profit and health sectors. Leora was ranked in the Top 10 among hundreds of organisations across Australia and New Zealand, marking our debut in this broader sector category and another step forward for our team.

What the award means and how it’s earned

The Best Places to Work list is built on a rigorous submission process, led by AFR and Bendelta, where organisations are assessed across two core areas:

  1. Employee experience and engagement, measured through anonymous staff surveys
  2. Workplace policies and practices, reviewed by independent judges with a focus on innovation, flexibility, wellbeing and inclusion

Each submission is benchmarked against others in the same sector. The organisations that make the list are those that don’t just promise a positive culture, but back it up through strategy, structure and positive workplace experience.

What it takes to be a best place to work

Leora’s appearance on the list for five consecutive years is not by chance. It reflects our ongoing, behind-the-scenes work to continuously improve our systems, invest in our people and create a workplace that holds up in real-world conditions.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve focused on:

  • Improved internal communication through structured feedback loops and more direct engagement across teams
  • Expanded professional development opportunities for both frontline and office staff
  • Formalised mental health and wellbeing initiatives with dedicated time for connection and support
  • Introduced structured time for team reconnection and recognition through peer-led events, wellbeing initiatives and shared wins
  • Increased transparency in decision-making across all levels of the organisation

Why this recognition matters to us

Leora's 5-peat AFR win.
Celebrating five years strong. The Leora team marks another year on the AFR Best Places to Work list.

Being named an AFR Best Place to Work matters for one important reason: it reflects what our people are actually experiencing whilst working at Leora Healthcare

Working in care involves significant pressure and responsibility. For our teams to do meaningful work, they need real support—professionally and personally. That includes flexible scheduling, effective supervision, clear career development and policies that are consistently applied.

This recognition tells us we’re getting those foundations right, and that our people feel it.

We want to thank our entire Leora team: our support workers, care coordinators and office staff across NSW, QLD and VIC. Your feedback, energy and honesty helped shape this fantastic result!

We’re also proud to be listed alongside organisations like Updoc, Cliniko and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, each bringing their own approach to workplace culture in care and health sectors.

What’s next for Leora

Culture isn’t built through a single initiative or award. It’s shaped by the choices we make every day and by the role every team member plays in creating a workplace that lasts. We’re committed to building on what works, being honest about what needs improvement, and continuing to invest in what our people need most. That includes:

  • Continuing to refine how we handle staff feedback and recognition to ensure every voice is heard and valued
  • Rolling out perks and benefits that matter most to our people
  • Scaling what’s working across teams, without losing the values and culture that make staff proud to be here

If you’re wondering what it takes to build a workplace where care goes both ways, this award offers one answer.

We’ll continue to build a culture led by people who bring light into the lives of others and into the work we do every day.

We’re proud to be recognised. And we’re just getting started.
