Published Summary

As Leora’s Learning & Development Specialist, Peter develops and implements training programs for our leaders, staff members and carers.

Peter has worked in the education sector across a wide variety of industries for more than 15 years, but working in the disability and aged care space allows him “to have a profound impact on someone’s life,” he shares.

As Leora’s Learning & Development Specialist, he develops and implements training programs for our leaders, staff members and carers.

“If you have an organisation that lives and breathes a positive culture and the people within it are passionate, it makes you want to achieve more for them.”

Outside of work, Peter’s three main hobbies are football (“the round ball football,” he clarifies), food and travel.

Watch our interview to hear more about his unforgettable trip to Iran and what he considers one of his greatest achievements! (And it’s not hiking in Patagonia, although he’s done that, too.)

A profound impact

Having worked in the education sector across a wide variety of industries for over 15 years, when I came across my current role at Leora, I was instantly drawn to the nature of the aged care/disability sector: the ability to have a profound impact on someone’s life.

I love motivating and inspiring employees for continuous development and building on their existing skills. As an educator, the greatest satisfaction is driving continuous improvement and seeing people grow and achieve great things.

Living and breathing a positive culture

Leora stands out because of its wonderful culture and the people within it. Heard a lot about it before I started, and it’s 100 percent true. If you have an organisation that lives and breathes a positive culture and the people within it are passionate, it makes you want to achieve more for them.

Outside of work, my main three hobbies are football – as in, the round ball football – food and travel.

What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?

I went to Iran in 2018 and cannot talk more highly enough of how kind and hospitable the people were. The culture, food and history were amazing.

A bit of a mid-life crisis, I think. I went for a few changes in my life and I just want to do some adventuring.

It made me realise what the world would be like if we were all curious travellers and not being affected by politics and the media within it.

What’s your favourite dessert?

My in-laws cook Filipino desserts for me and I’m obviously drawn to my own Greek heritage as well, but if I had to choose one, in the searing heat of the Philippines, what I really loved to eat is halo-halo.

Tell us something most people don’t know about you.

I’ve hiked in Patagonia, sailed the Nile, attended the World Cup in Russia, but one thing I hadn’t done until this year was get my driver’s license. I was happy to just use public transport the rest of my life. My motivating factor was my wife and the fact that I had a newborn about to come into the world, so I knew it was time to act. And it’s become one of my great achievements of this year, to get my license.
