Can I use more than one service provider under Support at Home?
You may be able to use multiple service providers under Support at Home. Learn how your registered provider can coordinate different workers and services.

You may want one organisation to provide personal care, an independent cleaner to help around your home and a physiotherapist you already know and trust.
Under Support at Home, it may be possible to receive services from more than one worker or service business. However, these services still need to be coordinated through your chosen registered Support at Home provider.
Understanding the difference between your registered provider and your individual service providers can make the arrangement easier to navigate.
What is your registered Support at Home provider?
Once you receive Support at Home funding, you choose a registered provider to deliver and oversee your aged care services. Your provider works with you to develop your care plan, prepare your individualised budget and organise services that meet your assessed needs.
Your registered provider remains responsible for the safety and quality of the funded care you receive. This responsibility continues when services are delivered by another organisation, an independent business or a third-party worker.
Can different providers deliver different services?
Yes, if your registered provider agrees to the arrangements.
For example, your Support at Home services could include:
- Personal care from your registered provider’s support workers
- Cleaning from an independent cleaning business
- Gardening from a local gardener
- Physiotherapy from an allied health clinic
- Podiatry from a practitioner you already visit
- Meal services from an approved supplier
Using several service providers may give you greater choice and help you find workers with the right experience, availability or approach for each service.
Under a self-managed arrangement, you may also ask to use a third-party worker on an occasional or ongoing basis. Your registered provider must agree to engage the worker before the service can be paid for through your Support at Home funding.
Does every service provider need approval?
Yes. You cannot independently arrange a service and assume that your Support at Home budget will cover it.
Each service must:
- Relate to your assessed aged care needs
- Be included in your support plan
- Appear on the Support at Home service list
- Fit within your available quarterly budget
- Meet your registered provider’s requirements
Your provider may also need to check the service provider’s qualifications, screening, insurance, business information and service rates. The requirements will depend on the type of service being delivered.
Who manages the invoices and payments?
Your service agreement should explain how invoices from different providers will be submitted, reviewed and paid.
Depending on your self-management arrangement, you may check invoices before sending them to your registered provider. In some cases, you may pay an approved expense and request reimbursement. Your provider will still manage government claims and include service charges in your monthly statement.
A third-party provider overhead may also apply when your registered provider engages an external worker or business. Ask how this is calculated before agreeing to the service so you understand its full effect on your budget.
How can you keep multiple services coordinated?
Using different providers can work well when responsibilities are clear.
Before starting, confirm:
- Who will arrange each service
- Who to contact about cancellations
- How invoices should be submitted
- What happens when a provider changes its rates
- How service information will be shared
- Who will help if a service is no longer suitable
Your care partner can help review your mix of services and make sure they continue to reflect your support plan, needs and available funding.
