Harmony Week 2024 at Leora
Harmony Week 2024 coincides with Harmony Day and the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), serving as a reminder that Everyone Belongs.
Happy Harmony Week!
Harmony Week 2024 (18 to 24 March) is a celebration of Australia’s diversity, bringing together people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
At Leora, where our carers speak more than 50 languages and serve multicultural families, we celebrate diversity not just this week, but every week!
We believe that everyone – regardless of language, culture or ability – deserves respect, safety and a sense of belonging.
Harmony Week 2024 coincides with Harmony Day and the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), serving as a reminder that Everyone Belongs.
Here are some fascinating statistics about Australia’s diversity:
- nearly half (49 per cent) of Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was
- we identify with over 300 ancestries
- since 1945, more than 7.5 million people have migrated to Australia
- 85 per cent of Australians agree multiculturalism has been good for Australia
- apart from English, the most common languages spoken in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Tagalog/Filipino, Hindi, Spanish and Punjabi
- more than 70 Indigenous languages are spoken in Australia.
A taste of Harmony
Our team celebrated with a reflection on multiculturalism, a potluck and a quiz that took us around the world.
We hope the rest of Harmony Week (and beyond) brings you meaningful conversations about how we can all live better, in harmony.
