How to read your Support at Home monthly statement
Your Support at Home monthly statement helps you understand how your aged care funding has been used.
Table of Contents
Your Support at Home monthly statement helps you understand how your aged care funding has been used.
It shows the services delivered during the previous month, what each service cost, any participant contributions and how much funding remains in your budget. This information is particularly important when you self-manage some of your aged care services, as it can help you monitor spending and plan for the rest of the quarter.
Although statement layouts may differ between providers, they must include key information about your funding and services.
1. Check the statement period
Start by checking which month the statement covers.
Your provider must issue a monthly statement showing the services and costs from the previous calendar month. Statements must be provided each month, even when no Support at Home services were delivered, and must be sent by the last day of the following month.
For example, your July statement must be provided by 31 August.
2. Review your available funding
Your statement should show the funding available at the beginning of the month.
This may include:
- Your ongoing quarterly Support at Home funding
- Unused funding carried over from a previous quarter
- Supplements
- Restorative Care Pathway funding
- End-of-Life Pathway funding
- Assistive Technology and Home Modifications funding
- Unspent Home Care Package funding, where applicable
These funding types may have different purposes or conditions, so check that you understand which balance can be used for each service.
3. Check the services and charges
Your statement should list each service delivered during the month.
For every entry, review:
- The service date
- The service type
- The number of hours or units
- The price charged
- The government subsidy
- Your participant contribution
- Whether a third-party provider was used
If you self-manage your aged care, compare these entries with your own calendar, invoices or service records. Check that the service occurred on the date shown and that the hours and price match what you agreed with your provider.
Cancellations and no-shows may also appear on your statement when a charge applies.
4. Understand participant contributions
Your participant contribution is the amount you may need to pay towards certain Support at Home services.
Contribution rates depend on the type of service and your financial circumstances. Clinical supports generally have no participant contribution, while contributions may apply to independence and everyday living services.
Your statement should show both the total service price and the portion covered by your contribution. If the contribution does not match your expected rate, ask your provider to explain how it was calculated.
5. Look closely at third-party service costs
Under self-managed Support at Home, you may choose independent workers or businesses to deliver approved services.
Your statement should identify when a third-party supplier was used. Review the final amount charged to your budget and compare it with the worker’s original invoice or agreed rate.
A registered provider may apply an overhead for administering a third-party arrangement. This overhead is capped at 10% of the actual third-party service cost and must be included in the final service price.
Ask your provider for a clear breakdown if you do not understand the amount charged.
6. Review your remaining balance
Your closing balance shows how much funding remained at the end of the month.
Compare this amount with the services you have planned for the rest of the quarter. If your balance is reducing faster than expected, you may need to review service frequency, provider rates or upcoming expenses with your care partner.
Your statement may also show adjustments, refunds or funds already committed to approved assistive technology or home modifications.
What should you do if something looks wrong?
Contact your Support at Home provider if you notice:
- A service you did not receive
- Incorrect dates or hours
- A price you did not agree to
- An unexpected cancellation charge
- An unclear third-party overhead
- A missing refund or adjustment
- A balance that does not match your records
